St Fillans is a lovely, purpose-built care home in the quiet residential area of St John’s, Colchester. Our kind and compassionate team members live in the local community, coming from nearby areas such as Highwoods and Greenstead. They take great pride in caring for the people who live here as they would for their own family members. With lots of facilities and activities, there’s fun to be found every day at St Fillans.

I honestly feel like Ashlyn Care Home has saved my mum's life.
She has put on weight thanks to the great food and regular meals which she didn't do for herself at home. Her mental health has improved thanks to regular stimulation from the chats with the team and the events the home plans. She wasn't keen to go into a home to start, but now she has a new lease of life and is very happy being part of the Ashlyn family. All the team we meet are friendly and helpful and were great with advice for me when my mum first arrived. I really can't thank them all enough they do an amazing job despite it being very challenging at times.

Our highly skilled team members are available 24 hours a day. They spend time with each individual, providing companionship and support. By really getting to know the people who live with us, we are able to provide person-centred care which is tailored to each person’s needs.

There is an abundance of opportunities for people to enjoy the things they love, whilst being supported to try new things too. Our mealtimes are one of the many highlights of the day, with home-cooked favourites served daily. Our seasonal menus are created in partnership with the people who live here and feature fresh seasonal produce from our vegetable garden!

Location and surroundings
St Fillans is in the St John’s area of Colchester, just four miles northeast of the historic town centre. It is about a mile from the A12, which takes you to Chelmsford, London, Ipswich and the M25. Just a few minutes’ walk away is a parade of handy shops and the local bus stop, with regular services into Colchester town centre.
For day trips, there are plenty of interesting things to do nearby. Colchester’s historic town and castle are fascinating, and nearby is Constable country with Flatford Mill, East Bergholt and Dedham to explore. Further afield are the seaside resorts of Clacton-on-Sea and West Mersea as well as Highwood Country Park and Castle Hedingham.
