Abbot Care Home in Harlow has recently supported a local karaoke community group to continue their work by providing them with a dedicated space to host their weekly meetings.

The team at Abbot Care Home welcome entertainers and groups from their local community to host engaging activity sessions with the people who live with them. One of these entertainers who regularly performs at the home reached out to Lifestyle Coordinator, Helen to let her know about a karaoke group he hosts for members of the community in his spare time. In this email, he also asked for support from the home as the venue where their meetings usually take place is no longer available.

Helen was sad to hear this news, but as a big part of their local community, Helen began to see if there was anything they could do to support the group at Abbot. She came up with an idea and ran it past Home Manager Matt, who agreed that supporting the group is important and confirmed they could use the activity space at Abbot for their weekly sessions. Helen was delighted with the outcome, as it meant the group could continue their group meetings, and the people who live at Abbot could join in from the comfort of their own home!

Helen then got in touch with the karaoke group and let them know they could continue their karaoke meetings at Abbot. They were delighted to hear the news and excited to host their first session with the people who live at the care home.

The group arrived at Abbot Care Home and were shown to the activity room. The people who live at Abbot began to arrive and spent time saying hello to each member of the karaoke group.

Throughout the session, the people participating in the karaoke activity were given the opportunity to choose the songs in which they sang. Participants were also given percussion instruments to play along to the songs, which made it an enjoyable, multisensory, musical afternoon for all.

GL, who lives at Abbot said, "It is really nice to be mixing with our local community and making new friends."
