Ann lives at Goldenley Care Home in Benfleet, and was recently delighted when Lifestyle Coordinator, Faith invited her to a theatre production of ‘Oh What a Lovely War’.

Faith originally booked the tickets to celebrate Brenda’s 90th birthday, but unfortunately, Brenda was unable to attend so Faith invited Ann to attend in her place. Ann was delighted to be invited, so she got her glad rags on, ready for an exciting evening in Basildon.

‘Oh What a Lovely War’ is a musical show set during the war in Britain. It was originally released back in 1969, but due to the popularity of the show, theatre tours still take place to this day. After arriving at the Towngate Theatre, and taking some photos together, Ann and Faith took their seats and eagerly waited for the show to start.

It was a very upbeat show, but balanced with sentimental parts about the people who lost their lives during the war. Watching the show brought back memories for Ann and her own experience of wartime Britain. The songs that were performed throughout the show were very familiar to Ann, especially ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’, so she joined in and sang along from her seat.

Both Ann and Faith thoroughly enjoyed the show, and before heading back home, they stopped for a bite to eat at McDonalds, as requested by Ann.

When asked to share her reaction to the show, Ann said, “It was brilliant, especially how they showed the sadness too. The actors were excellent.”

After seeing the show, Faith knows Branda would love to see it, so hopefully, she can attend when the performers revisit Basildon.
