Nic’s brand new, made-to-measure wheelchair has offered him a new lease of life and opportunities to move around independently with confidence.

Nic relies on his wheelchair every day, so making sure he had something comfortable and supportive was a priority for his family and the team at Glennfield Care Home. He needed something that could manoeuvre easily both inside and outside the care home, so they arranged for a brand-new chair to be built for Nic.

Working in partnership, The Care Shop and Your Mobility were tasked with creating something personalised to Nic’s needs that would allow him to move around confidently.

Whilst they were making Nic’s new chair, he had to spend more time in his room, which showcased just how important his wheelchair is. But it was definitely worth the wait, as when it arrived, it was everything he had hoped for!

Nic was presented with his brand-new chair and a box of chocolates to celebrate the occasion and the wonderful opportunities that this will open for him.

Designed with comfort in mind, the chair features a supportive, armchair-style seat, headrest, and padded footrest. It also includes a fold-out table and an electric motor, allowing Nic to move around the home and garden independently without needing to transfer.

The most meaningful part of this is the doors it will open for Nic. He has been wanting to visit a local park and enjoy a picnic with his family in the summer – something he simply wouldn’t be able to do without his wheelchair. Nic also loves spending time in the garden, and now, he can venture outside whenever he wants! He can also attend social events and group activities, whilst being comfortable and confident.

Nic said his new chair “is like a steam engine,” and that he is trying to think of a name for it.

It’s been wonderful to see the difference this chair has already made for Nic in such a short space of time, and the team is looking forward to seeing how this improves his quality of life.
