Phillip lives at Westport Care Home, and once had his interesting life published in a magazine produced by the Alzheimer’s Society.
It’s no wonder his story caught the attention of publishers, as Phillip was a lifelong sportsman and a pole-vaulting champion in Grenada. Speaking about his natural athleticism and pole-vaulting career, Phillip told the Alzheimer’s Society, “We grew up near the recreation ground in Grenada. I was probably there 365 days a year doing cricket, football and athletics. I was the best pole vaulter in my country and in those times, we used bamboo. It was quite dangerous as it could have snapped.”
Phillip enjoys discussing his life, his sporting achievements and as an avid sports fan, Phillip also enjoys sharing stories about sporting moments he was there to witness.
In the article, Phillip also shared memories from the past, mentioning the times he would go back to Grenada, meet friends from his younger years and recall fond memories from their childhood in the Caribbean.
Now living at Westport Care Home, Phillip still enjoys watching sporting events on television and sharing stories with his friends who live there. He’s no longer pole vaulting, but very much still a champion in our eyes!
