A group of people from Sherrell House Care Home in Chigwell recently ventured out of the county for an exciting day exploring the wonders of the Sea Life London Aquarium.

Many of the people who live at Sherrell House are animal lovers, and with positive feedback from animal visits and trips to the zoo, Lifestyle Coordinator Astrid decided to organise a trip to Sea Life London so people could get a glimpse of weird and wonderful sea creatures from around the world.

Buzzing with excitement, people from Sherrell House and a few team members hopped aboard a coach for the drive to Central London. The driver was happy to go the scenic route and took a slow drive through the center of town so people could observe the hustle and bustle of life in the city. For a few, this brought back memories from when they used to work in London during their younger years, and connected memories of visiting the capital. Some impressive landmarks they spotted en route included Buckingham Place, Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. Seeing these sights sparked meaningful conversations and added to the excitement of the day ahead.

When stepping into Sea Life, the dim lights and large tanks made it feel like they had gone under the sea. Supported by the team, visitors from Sherrell House were shown around Sea Life and had the opportunity to see turtles, tropical fish, rays and much more! Along their route around Sealife, they encountered an open tank, which gave people the opportunity put their hands in and touch the Starfish.

The next stop along their tour was at the shark tank, and luckily, a presentation from a Sea Life ranger was just starting. This provided people with the opportunity to see the sharks being fed and learn more about this impressive species.

Visiting Sea Life certainly surpassed people’s expectations, and the day got even better when the sun started shining as they walked outside. They took this as an opportunity to enjoy a sunny stroll along the River Thames, before stopping for fish and chips at a riverside restaurant.

The people living at Sherrell House thoroughly enjoyed their day in London and made many happy memories to take home with them.
