The people living and working at Etheldred House Care Home in Cambridge were honoured when they received a special visit from Sir Tony Gearing MBE.
Sir Tony Gearing MBE is the founder of YOPEY Dementia Befriender Charity: a scheme that encourages intergenerational communication by connecting the people living in care homes with members of their local community.
Tony walked around the home to chat with different residents about their experiences with YOPEY. Robin and Joan talked to him about the letters they’d received from students in East Anglia. They talked him through the letters and mentioned how much they had enjoyed receiving them.
Both Robin and Joan found this conversation very relaxing and enjoyed sharing their feedback with Tony. Once the conversation was over, the pair were challenged to do a wordsearch (their favourite activity) and finished it incredibly quickly, wowing everyone.
Sir Tony Gearing told the team that he has really enjoyed working with many of the Excelcare homes, and he is so pleased to see for himself just how much the residents are enjoying YOPEY. He is very enthusiastic about contributing to the wellbeing of people living in care homes, and he plans to continue with YOPEY for as long as he can.
